Sous Chef - Full-Time Continuing

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a full-time continuing Sous Chef commencing as soon as possible. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Salary Scale, Level 7: $2,122.40 (Bi-Weekly) plus a comprehensive benefit plan.

Duties:  The Sous Chef will work alongside the Chef to support and assist in the development of menu items, recipes, and meals with a focus on quality, taste, and presentation.

Provide high level of customer service, initiating necessary actions to correct customer complaints.

Ensure all aspects of food preparation, delivery, and service are compliant with the Food Sanitation and Safety Plans.

Assist with ordering and maintaining food items and supplies receive and validate deliveries of items and supplies

Cashier duties (open café or cafeteria for service and prioritize daily work tasks).

Support the Food Service Coordinator and Chef in training kitchen staff and establishing a working schedule.

Flexibility to cover for various Food Services departments and other duties as assigned.

Prepare all food items, assign/ monitor work to students as required including cooking high quality dishes  

General kitchen cleaning duties and assisting with cleaning supply maintenance.

Assist in executing special events, preparing, packing and transporting food and beverages for off-site catering. 

Qualifications

Successful completion of Grade 12.

Professional Cook Level 2 (Level 3, preferred), Food Safe Level 1, WHMIS, Serving it right.

Minimum of three years in a fast-paced Food Service/Hospitality environment.

Good oral and written communication skills, good technical skills, and a high degree of customer service and team interaction skills. Some computer skills are required to maintain the catering calendar and do food orders.

Flexible hours required - some evening and weekend work necessary.

Proficiency in office, point-of-sale, and restaurant management software including computer applications such as Office 365, Outlook, Excel,

Proven leadership experience, understanding of the catering services industry, and high degree of resiliency under pressure and effective time management techniques.

Class 5 Drivers License.

OFA Level 1 and Forklift Certification preferred
